Week 8: Learning

Recovery for me has always been foremost an educational process.   I read numerous books and journal articles, conversed with many therapists, medical professionals and sufferers alike and absorbed and sifted through a wealth of information about eating disorders to find the truth behind my own experience.  I became somewhat like a desperate detective who left no stone unturned if it meant I would survive.

To be honest, my eating disorder was once the most confusing thing I had ever came accross. My early understanding of the dynamics of the disease was akin to being possessed by the devil or something. I was dying inside and I had no clear idea why or how to stop myself from doing so.  But over time I learnt what an eating disorder was, why it resided within me and most crucially just how to overcome it and regain my life again.

While on your journey always remember:
You are the greatest expert on yourself.
 Don’t fear looking deeper.
Trust yourself and your instincts.
With time and learning the pieces all come together.
